Moments Stolen
In 2020, the Covid pandemic began and we all experienced this reality in different ways. The idea that certain things were not getting finished due to the pandemic was the genesis of this story. We had to stay present and connected to negotiate feelings of loss for part of our lives. Over time, the loss was a loved one for many people.
While editing the lyrics, I took this song into a songwriting workshop with Mary Gauthier. Her brutally honest input allowed me to say what I needed to say.
-
Danger ahead sheltered in place
Had to go out covered face
Maintained six feet of space
Pandemic - paused the human raceCHORUS
Lives lost in their prime
Living kicked on down the line
Body and soul changed for a lifetime
Moments stolen our precious time
Not doing so well, you say
Oh no.. on my way
Beeps, red lights, one day they say
Moments Stolen this is not okay
Loss was a total surprise
Could not see the end nearby
No chance to say goodbye
Moments stolen from those about to dieCHORUS
Bridge
Time stolen away
About it - we had nothing to say
What we do have is today
Where to go from here
More love, less fear
Moments stolen, so many tears
Memories are forever, hearts so near
Chorus
