I Love You Mom
It took 20 years after Mom passed in 2001 for me to be able to write a song for her. It’s even hard for me today to write these words about her. What else can I say.
-
Jets taking down towers in the morning light
And just before first grandchildren wedding invites
You passed away, been twenty one years
I was silenced, only tears
Still feel our heartbeat when we were one
Sharing these words heals me
I love you Mom, your youngest son
Wall-to-wall precious family pictures
Talking for hours with your twin sister
Both of your kids. and their kids
and their kids… there for each other
Stay connected you would always say
Sharing these words heals me
I love you Mom, your youngest son
At the always clean kitchen table,
Ponzio’s Diner your seat facing people
Tell me you would say
What’s going on in your life today
Hear our stories offer sound advice
Sharing these words heals me
I love you Mom, your youngest son
Rotary phone hanging on the blue wall
Listening carefully sharing wisdom with all
You taught us the importance of love
Tell others often of that love
And be sure to love ourselves
Sharing these words heals me
I love you Mom, your youngest son
Backyard Burgers, sweet Jersey corn, fireflies
Wilbur chocolates, roses, Channel #5
Gave me guitar when I was ten,
Been in my hands ever since then
Using it now to speak to you again
Sharing these words heals me
I love you Mom, your youngest son
Sharing these words heals me, I love you Mom, your youngest son
