Don’t Bother Me With The Facts
Someone actually said “don’t bother me with the facts, I have made up my mnd” to me one day back in 2011 and that attitude just “stopped me in my tracks.” The verses came quickly but I got stuck for a year on the chorus. At 2012 at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, my songwriting friend David G. Smith was in the songwriter contest and we met up at the festival. One night just hanging around fooling with the chorus he found the magic and the chorus was resolved. Little did I suspect this attitude would be embraced by millions almost ten years later.
The original lyrics included “don’t bother me with the facts, what do I do with that?” While the question was dropped from the lyrics early on, it still lingers on in my mind. I have always tried to make sense of the world around me. The past few years have blurred the meaning of “facts.” This song helps me have compassion and empathy for all the narcissistic people out there who are stuck in their lane within the walls they have created around themselves.

How long has it been my friend?
Good to hear your voice again
Checking in to see if you changed
Found your way beyond those chains
Does your closed mind still reject
Anything that is not perfect
Hoping that changed since I left
CHORUS
What I am supposed do,
With these walls around you
So easy to see,
Barriers and boundaries
You stop me in my tracks when you say
“Made up my mind, don’t bother me with the facts”
Did you see the news today?
The Court handed down what they had to say
It did not go your way
And you think that this is not okay
How did you get to have the final word
Do we all have to follow your Lord
You are no longer being heard
ChorusDo you mean what you said?
Those words escaped out of your head
We want to let you back in
For things to be what they could have been
Perfection is what you are looking for
There are so many more doors
You are locked within your own bordersCHORUS 2X
