Legend In This Own Mind
This story started at a tennis match observing a player losing his temper big time and believing his playing skills were legendary. They were not! Little did I know that years later, after the song was written, the story would apply to our nearest and dearest politicians.
Thanks to Fred Kosak for adding his mandolin to this 2023 version.
-
He arrived on the scene, living his dream
For others to see, envy, and believe
Delivering judgment at every turn
His trail littered with things to learn
He came from another place another time
Always central to his mind’s eye
CHORUS
A legend on his own mind
Stories … passed down in time
A hero? to some a wise one
To most tales of the lonesomeRepetition, on a mission well above the rest
In an orbit, circling his own self
A transmitting tower on a private hill
Broadcasting for all to hear
Drunk from an intoxicating brew
Perception, misconception legal fiction tooCHORUS
Bridge
While those in his past, knew him as the best
He’s a stranger now being put to the test
Only inside to him little has changed
Words without caution, blow by with the wind
Too many tales for too long stretched too far
Springing back to bite this self-proclaimed star
He just does not get it too late in the game
Everything around him already changed.
Story out now, spread by that wind
Told without caution without regard to him.
CHORUS
